Beginner’s Guide To Using A Dual Tip Vibrator

What is a dual tip vibrator

Dual tip vibrators are external vibrators designed specifically for clitoral pleasure. With two firm but flexible arms, this unique type of clitoral vibrator is commonly used against the clitoral hood to engage the entire clitoral network — which is much bigger than the little button that you can see at the top of the vulva from the outside. The name “dual tip” comes from the two arms that simultaneously stimulate both sides of the clitoris at once using a motor at each tip.

Why use a dual tip vibrator?

Broad clitoral stimulation

Dual tip vibrators are designed to stimulate either side of the clitoris to make the clitoral stimulation deeper and broader. The clitoral network extends inside the body to reveal a wishbone-like structure with two big arms (see below diagram). Dual tip vibrators provide easier access to this deeper clitoral network by stimulating the sides of the clitoris, rather than just focusing on the clitoral hood like a bullet vibrator is made to. Our product developer at VUSH likes to refer to this as “surround sound for the clitoris''.

Flexible arms and personalised pleasure

The flexible arms of a dual tip vibrator allow for personalised use that suits the size or preferred pressure of the user. The arms can be adjusted to create a wider gap between the tips, depending on how close to the clitoral hood you want to get. The arms can even be bent forwards or backwards to vary the angle of stimulation if one side of the clitoris is more sensitive than the other, which is common! The flexibility of the design also makes it great for nipple play, as the dual tips can also be adjusted to sit comfortably on either side of the nipple.

Double the stimulation

The two arms on a dual tip vibrator mean double the stimulation, with one motor in the tip of each arm, instead of just one motor like other types of vibrators. This lends itself to powerful sensations for those who like stronger stimulation. Most vibrators have a variety of modes and pleasure settings available, ranging from a gentle buzz to a deeper, more powerful rumble. Dual tip vibrators are no different, offering strong stimulation and various modes. They might be cute and bunny-like in appearance, but you shouldn’t underestimate their power!

Small, portable and discreet

Dual tip vibrators have the added benefit of being small and compact, making them perfect for on-the-go play or a weekend getaway. Swish even comes in a cute and discreet charging case. Dual tip vibrators are pocket sized with a gentle curve to rest comfortably in your hand, which makes them ideal for use during partnered play or intercourse. If your vibrator has a waterproof feature, that makes your toy even more portable.

How to use a dual tip vibrator

Knowing exactly how to use a dual tip vibrator may not be totally obvious just by looking at the toy — don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Here’s our guide to using a dual tip vibrator:

1. Turn it on

The way to do this will differ depending on the brand you’re using, but Swish has one easy-to-use power button which controls the on/off switch and various modes. We always recommend trying a vibrator against the back of your hand first to get a feel for how the toy mechanics work and the difference between the settings. Remember to hold the power button down for 3 seconds!

2. Incorporate lube

We recommend lube no matter what vibrator you’re using or type of sex you’re having. A good quality lubricant makes the experience a lot more pleasurable, not to mention smooth and frictionless. Most dual tip vibrators are made of silicone (keep an eye out for body-safe, medical-grade silicone). Silicone toys pair perfectly with a water-based lube, which won’t deteriorate the material or stain your bed sheets.

3. Start experimenting with the clitoris

When you’re ready to use your dual tip vibrator for what it’s made for, you can start by exploring the sensitive areas surrounding the clitoris. Drag the tips of the toy along the labia to warm up the entire vulva — think of the arms as two motorised fingers that are sensually tracing the entire vulva. Feel free to adjust the position of the flexible arms to suit the sensitivity of your clitoris or to stimulate the desired area.

4. Set speed and intensity you like

Once you’ve found a spot that feels good, you can experiment with the various modes on the vibrator. Each vibrator will have different pleasure settings that feel different for everyone. Give each mode a chance, and don’t forget to move your body in sync with the vibrations for the best results. Using different settings can also help you practice edging, a masturbation trick that helps you spend more time on pleasure and build up stronger orgasms.

5. Try different grips and positions

The beauty of a dual tip vibrator is that it is designed to stimulate the entire clitoris in a versatile way. Try holding your vibrator on its side to pleasure the clitoris from a horizontal angle, or stick to vertical positioning with the base of the vibrator resting in the palm of your hand naturally. Experiment with different positions on your body too, such as lying on your back, sitting up on your knees, or lying stomach down.

6. Use on other areas

As mentioned earlier, dual tip vibrators work just as well on the nipples. This could be a great way to build arousal before moving to clitoral stimulation. It can also be a fun way to experiment foreplay with a partner. Don’t worry, the clitoris and the nipples aren’t the only body parts that are compatible with a dual tip vibrator — you can also trace your entire body and explore different erogenous zones using the motorised tips.

Cleaning and storing your dual tip vibrator

The material of your dual tip vibrator will determine how you clean it. If your toy is waterproof, it is safe to use warm water with a gentle soap to rinse the vibrator. You can also use a dedicated sex toy cleaning spray or gentle cleansing wipes, which would be more appropriate for non-waterproof toys. If your toy is not waterproof, you may still be able to use warm soapy water, just make sure you’re extra careful with the mechanics or battery area of the toy.

No matter how you clean your sex toy, it is just as important to know how to dry it. Let your vibrator air dry on a clean surface or pat it dry with a clean towel. Read our blog to learn more about how to clean and dry your sex toys.

Once you have cleaned your dual tip vibrator, the next step is toy storage. Store your dual tip vibrator in the case it came in, or in a soft bag or hard storage case. Storing your sex toys effectively is essential to prevent dust or bacteria on the toy, which can lead to infection or irritation on your body. For more information on this, read our blog on how to store your sex toys.
